Unit 7 Blog

Hello Everyone,
The Meeting Aesclepius meditative practice was very thought provoking and wonderful. It came very easy to me during this meditative practice to indulge in my spiritual wellness because of the admiration and respect that I have for my individual, who was my grandfather. This meditative practice helped me feel the positive atmosphere that surrounds my grandfather who dedicates his life to equality and peacefulness.  Continuing to apply this practice would not be hard for me because I flourish when I utilize thoughts of loved ones, but if I can continue to grow my mindfulness for those who are strangers I believe I can foster greater health and wellness.
The saying “one cannot lead another where one has not gone himself” means that how can we promote and guide other to greater health and wellness without understanding the intracies of the journey ourselves. It’s almost as if we would be hypocrites by promoting a state of being in which we are not pursuing ourselves. Through our daily interactions with stressors such as work we should implement these integral practices to help facilitate spiritual growth.

  1. I truly loved this exercise as well. I found it very inviting and warming as I used my grandmother whom I was very close. She passed about 21 years ago yet I still can feel her warmth and love when I think about her. This was the easiest one yet for me and I feel that I will enjoy practicing this the most. The respect I still have for her to this day for her loving heart, kindness, warmth, and wonderful spirir for life makes this a perfect addition to this class. I have always tried to live my life following the example that she made. I can honestly say setting my standards high will still not do justice to the lady that she was. It sounds like you have the same respect for you grandfather. That is good to hear.
I agree with your definition of the saying "One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself". How can we honestly instruct someone how to improve their body, mind, and spirit if we do not lead by example. Nice post

  2. I would have to say that I 100% agree that we lead by example and if we do not practice what we are preaching to our clients, how can we expect them to consider the oath we are advising for them. Simple example... A smoker giving a lecture to some to stop smoking. Of course they are not going to consider our thoughts or concerns if we tell them to stop something we are guilty of as well. Love that saying, practice what you preach.

  3. Your grandfather sounds like a wonderful man! Focusing on a real person made connecting with positivity, love, and healing within myself pretty easy, because I just had to remember what my own grandfather was like -- it sounds like you had a similar experience. Which meditation have you enjoyed most so far? I have never really liked visualizations until now, but this exercise was right up there. (Normally, I prefer breathing practices.) Well, anyway, keep up the good work and see you next unit!
